Corelle is a brand of glassware and dishware. It is made of Vitrelle, a tempered glass product consisting of two types of glass laminated into three layers. The thermal bonding of these layers gives Corelle its strength, allowing it to be thinner and lighter than other dinnerware. It is durable, in addition to being chemical resistant, and is both dishwasher and microwave safe. It was introduced by Corning Glass Works in 1970, but is now manufactured and sold by World Kitchen.[1] A typical Corelle dinner plate measures 26 centimetres in diameter and weighs 355 grams.
Patterns

Corelle has come in hundreds of patterns over the years since it was first introduced, but most of these were retired when the brand was purchased by World Kitchen; many of the patterns were also used in CorningWare cookware. Retired patterns are still widely available, with entire sets in pristine condition due to Corelle’s resistance to chipping or staining. Demand for these sets continues with moderate pricing though some popular patterns may command a premium. Appeal of retired patterns varies, but the designs in greatest demand have included Blue Heather, Butterfly Gold, Colonial Mist, Indian Summer, Meadow and Spring Blossom Green (Crazy Daisies). The Corelle website lists over 300 discontinued patterns with pictures and names, but internet offerings suggest this list is incomplete (e.g. Champagne).
Safety

Radical temperature change or substantial impact can cause Corelle items to break, but unlike plate glass, Vitrelle can shatter into many small pieces and slivers, necessitating careful clean-up. [2]
