The story of Royal Albert stretches back over 100 years. Whilst the Royal Albert brand was created in 1904, its roots are to be found in the Albert Works, built in 1896. The Albert Works commemorated the birth of Prince Albert in 1895, who was named in memory of his great-grandfather, the most famous of Victorian Alberts.

The Albert Works was owned by Thomas Wild and his sons who specialised in affordable tea, breakfast and dessert wares with floral designs. They built up a reputation of producing beautiful china tea and breakfast sets and firmly established the Royal Albert brand.

English bone china was admired for its lightness, translucency and its soft subtle almost pearly white quality. Much approved of by the tea-party hostess of the nineteenth and early twentieth century.

The Royal Albert brand enjoys the distinction of two “Royal Warrants.”

A Royal Warrant is bestowed upon people or companies who have regularly supplied members of the Royal Family with goods or services. It is regarded as a mark of supreme excellence and quality which cannot, be bought or sold.

1896

Thomas Wild Senior and son Thomas C. Wild bought the Albert Works in Longton Stoke on Trent. Built in 1846 the Albert Works had been named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s Consort.

1897

Thomas Wild produced a range of Commemorative Pieces for Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee, which led to the presentation of a Royal Warrant.

1904

As a result of the Royal Warrant and its many links to the Royal Household, Thomas Wild took the name Royal Albert.

1920

Inspired by the fondness for English cottage gardens and shady woods, the Royal Albert floral style developed from early Victorian Chintz to Art Deco floral patterns.

1962

Old Country Roses launched in 1962, was based on an older Royal Albert Pattern called Kings Ransom. Still one of the best selling fine bone china patterns today, it has sold more than 150 million pieces since its introduction.

2006

The company name was registered in 1906. The 100 years collection launched in 2006 celebrated all the patterns created over the past 10 decades.
